Your line reminds me when Romney was asked how kids should pay for their student loans. He said they should ask their parents for a loan. Completely out of touch with the world of today.
In the US (and getting that way in other parts of the "West" as well) the average downpayment for a house is completely out of reach.
"Mom & Dad" could get a good job out of college with no student loan debt. That good job allowed them to save up a few thousand dollars after a couple of years to put a down payment on a home.
Nowadays kids get out of university with an average about $40,000 and a job that often requires them to still live at home because they can't afford rent. The average sales price of a US home is $500,000.
So in your fantasy world those whining kids can't manage to come up with $100,000 cash down payment while paying off a $40,000 student loan (ironically about what "Mom & Dad" paid for thier home) while working for $17 at Starbucks ($35,000 per year).
I'm a landlord myself, but not in the predatory capitalist US system. The US rental system is - in general - GREAT for landlords and - in general - shitty for renters.
