You can never find a 1:1. But of the problems you list in the US, more cops with guns makes all of the problems worse, whereas more social services and mental health professionals makes all of the problems less bad.
It’s not rocket science. We have a bunch of people under stress. We have basically two choices:
- Add a group of people trained for war and with tools of war; or
- Add a group of people who are trained for peace and with tools to help bring peace.
Which solution — 1 or 2 — do you think has a better chance of bringing peace?
Of course reality is not that binary, but for the last 50 years we keep adding to group 1 and reducing group 2, and the situation just gets worse and worse. Time to try adding peace instead of adding more war. Minneapolis has just come to exactly this conclusion.
