Whether we in the west like it or not, BRICS+ nations get a say. Russia has said they see Ukraine entering NATO as an existential threat. Whether we agree with that position or not is a moot point. Russia still gets to have their opinion.
As we see from their annexation of Crimea immediately after the Ukrainian coup in 2014, and now their invasion in 2022, they are clearly not bluffing that Ukraine is a red line for them.
Germany and other major EU members didn't want Ukraine in the EU or NATO before the war started. If you read the European press this was patently obvious.
Ukraine cannot continue the war without continuous and large western support both financially and militarily. Never in US history have we provided aide without strings attached. Never.
Parts of Ukraine don't want to be a Russian vassal state (west). Parts do (east). Parts want to be independent (mixed). That has been the case for decades. That is the reason this is such a difficult situation diplomatically.
Blanket statements purporting to represent 44 million opinions of the largest country in Europe are specious at best.
