Whenever I'm feeling upbeat about my life I know I can count on a column from B to bring me down.

There is no doubt that the current number of humans + our current average consumption is not sustainable. How the collapse to sustainability occurs has so many variables that taking this article as a roadmap would be unwise. However, it would be just as unwise to think the future scenario described here is impossible.

Personally, I think the fall from 2100 to 5000 BCE (Neolithic) is not as likely as 2100 to 1700 CE, but maybe that is just wishful thinking for my potential grandchildren.
