What I think is that the video you linked to, and thus your information, are incorrect. Gonzalo Lira was not arrested for being a spy.

The SBU (Ukrainian secret police) provided direct statements as to why he was arrested. In a dark humor aside: It is darkly hilarious irony that the "Ukrainian Secret Police" provides official statements (not very secret, is it?).

Here from an official Ukrainian source:

https://english.nv.ua/nation/pro-russian-blogger-gonzalo-lira-detained-in-kharkiv-ukraine-news-50322558.html

Here from Finland (no friend to Russia) with more details:

https://www.helsinkitimes.fi/world-int/23512-detaining-gonzalo-lira-another-blow-to-the-freedom-of-press-in-ukraine.html

"The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) arrested Gonzalo Lira, a US-Chilean national residing in Kharkiv, on suspicions of harbouring pro-Russian sentiments. This marks the second time Lira has been apprehended by the SBU. Lira, an author and filmmaker who relocated to Kharkiv years ago and married a Ukrainian, was initially detained in April 2022 but was released after a week without charges. He was subsequently instructed not to leave the city and prohibited from discussing his arrest."

So the video you linked to is either lying or mistaken.

Speaking out against the government is not a crime in open society. Ukraine is a near dictatorship now, with only the official government position being allowed.

Lira - a US citizen - was thrown into a prison camp in Ukraine and the US government did NOTHING to help him.

I was not a fan of Lira. I didn't like his style and I don't think his content was particularly original, except for a few things here and there (and not enough to get me to watch him). Be that as it may, throwing him into prison for his views shows how bad the government in Ukraine is, not how good Lira was (or wasn't).
