Well then what you want isn’t UBI, but to gut the social safety net.
UBI is a “basic income” understood to be a basic income above zero. But if you are starting from below zero (e.g. a disabled vet) you need social help just to get to zero. If that vet gets $1500/month in support now just to reach the poverty level and that is replaced by $1000/month UBI, she ends up worse off, while people like me in the top percentage of earners will get an extra $1k a month that helps me finance another piece of rental property.
That example is why the richest oligarchs in the US are all for UBI, because they see it as a way to gut the social safety net and have a net transfer of wealth to those of us at the top.
