War is hell. Losing a war sucks. Extending a clearly lost war sucks more. The US has been losing this war since about 2002 when it became clear to the Afghans that we weren't there for Bin Laden. 19 years of losing isn't enough? Hundreds of thousands of dead Afghans isn't enough for you Umair? Millions of Afghan refugees isn't enough for you?

Ask average Germans in 1943 if surrendering would have been better than fighting until 1945. Ask average Americans if we would rather have not gone into South East Asia in the 1960s, and if we did, if it would have been better to quit after the Tet Offensive rather than fight another five years.

The US should never have had more than commandos (with Afghan approval) in country to get Bin Laden. This war was a horrible war crime, and ending it couldn't come soon enough.

I don't even like Biden. I didn't vote for him. I think he is a creepy, demented, racist. But I respect the hell out of him for having the balls not to cave to the pressure and tricks of the generals - including NOT preparing for this withdrawl that has been in planning for months - and ending this horrible war.

I wish Biden would end all US wars abroad, even if it means walking away and leaving the women of [fill in country] to the whims of the [fill in horrible dictator or group].

People around the world don't want the US to be the "world police." The only way to do that is to stop being the world police. That means some bad people in other countries are going to do some bad things. You're welcome to enlist in the Afghan army and fight the Taliban if you feel so strongly about this, Umair.
