VW - evil diesel cheaters that they are - are also long term smart planners. Decades ago they bought 50% of SEAT and 50% of Skoda. That gives them home market advantage across the European continent under various brands, economies of scale that very few automakers can match, and a range of platforms that is also almost unmatchable.
The Taycan is a halo car. Like every other halo car it is extremely niche and (IMO) never worth the price. You can usually get 90% of the tech for 50% of the price by moving down one model, or being willing to wait 2 years.
The Model S was a halo car...10 years ago. Tesla's biggest problem is Musk's ego. He should have sold to Ford a few years ago when he had the chance.
