Very much enjoyed this perspective. I'm in Austria and we have something similar with taxes. I "drive" a BMW 328xi that will be paid off in about a year. I put "drive" in quotes because my wife and I sold our second car, and I drive almost not at all because I walk from our flat to the office, and bike to my gym. I drive about once every couple of weeks to clients in town.
We have a garage, and want an electric car, but will wait until we can get a used Hyundai or similar (my eye is on the KIA EV6 GT). We previously had a Hyundai and although the interior wasn't as nice as the Audi we looked at first, it was literally half the price - brand new.
I also have the opinion that it will be easier for legacy ICE car companies to make electrics at scale than for Tesla to scale up to compete with legacy ICE car companies. TBH: I expected Ford to buy Tesla a couple of years ago when Ford stopped producing sedans in the US. I think Tesla is just another company Musk created with the intention to sell.
On a side note, on the monitor to my left, the work I'll be getting back to after I post this will be transferre to our client in Antwerp next week for on-site, remote testing. Normally I'd be flying up there to work on-site. Now I don't even need to be driven to the airport.
