Very interesting story! Living in Vienna I've known and worked with many Italians. I'd guess it was not the US that set you free, but the the 10,000 km between you and your family.

If your family had emigrated with you, I'm guessing you would have had the same headaches and issues as back in the old country.

I empathize. The 9,000 km between where I live and where my family lives has helped me develop myself as well!
