Very interesting. I had a chance to go to Morocco about 10 years ago but did not for a couple of different reaons. Looking back I wish I had tried harder to make it happen.

As far as long sieges go, there is a little place on the other side of the Med that has been under "blockade" (i.e. "siege") since 2007. They still have a ways to go to "beat the record" but they are more than half way there, with all the terrible results one would imagine from such a situation.
