I'm a capitalist American running a business social democratic Austria and together for very many years with a Czech who grew up in socialist Czechslovakia.

I'm of the opinion that captialism works in some cases, socialism in others, and a healthy mix covers the rest. Back in pre-91 CZ, you could not just sit at home and do nothing. If you could work, you must work. I don't think we should go that far today, but finding useful work has never been a problem in human history - even in other periods of fast-paced and large changes like we are seeing now.

If you want to work, you should be given work, and make a living wage doing it. Nearly every able bodied person has some skill, or the capacity for some skill. Society benefits when we all work together. Actually that is what I define as a society.
