Trees for the Future

This is great story, Andrei. I will use your post as a segue.

For some years now I donate a few bucks a month to a group called “Trees for the Future.” They take the plan of reforestation from your story a couple of steps further. They have developed a concept called “forest gardens” where subsistance farmers use various types of trees and plants to create sustainable, multi-crop plots of land, using plants as well to create natural barriers. The Forest Gardens provide food for the farmers’ families and crops for sale, while reclaiming land, replenishing the soil, and reducing global warming. There is really no downside.

The litany of problems with monocrops throughout history is very long. Forest Gardens address that problem as well.

Take a look at TftF’s 2020 Impact Report. Particularly slide 3, where you can see some before and after (1 year) photos. Phenomenal. They have planted more than 191 million trees since their founding in 1989.

I have no personal or financial connection to the Trees for the Future group (other than my donations). I just did some research and found that for the price of a cup of coffee each month I could really make a difference in the world.
