"Torture is Awful. Why Does Pop Culture Make It Cool?"

Easy answer. Any film that has anything military in it must be approved by the US military or it can't be made. The US military wants to have free reign to do whateve they want without restrictions. Making torture "cool" in US culture reduces pressure on the US military to act legally (i.e. not commit war crimes like torture).
