My gasoline car will be paid off soon. My wife drives it every day. It is a BMW 328xi (i.e. a sporty awd), so we don't get awesome mileage. We live in Austria where gasoline is about 3x more expensive than in the US. In Austria, insurance is half based on the horsepower of the car and half on the original sticker price - except electric cars exempt from the HP 1/2 (extra great since BEVs make awesome HP numbers).
I'll have to make a spreadsheet, but off the top of my head it looks like the gas and insurance savings will cover a lot of monthly lease cost for us. There are other not insignificant issues involved that make it even more attractive for me.
