This is old, and still a bad take. If you stick to the maximalist Ukraine objective of getting all their terrritory back, it is basically a guarantee of WWIII with a nuclear power. Ukraine at least will be nuked, and probably the entire world.
That is the what going to war with the biggest nuclear power in the world means. I'm 58. Back in the 80s when I was in college, we as a nation understood this and we were scared Reagan was going to get us all killed. We are much closer now to nuclear armageddon than we were 40 years ago.
For decades we have not attacked North Korea because 1) The nuclear armed China backs them up, and it was clear that war with China would be a shit show even if we won, and 2) since about 20 years, NK has nukes and a war means the end of Seoul, South Korea.
So if we have understood for decades that going to war against tiny and weak North Korea is a non-starter because of nukes, how stupid has this 30 year provocation of the biggest nuclear power in the world been?
This is a fight noone can win, and we used to understand that: MAD - mutually assured destruction. Relearn what that means. Internalize it.
Compromise sucks. I've been in 100s of high level negotiations over the decades. Compromise means both sides are about equally unhappy with the result. That is the only way out of this.
Russia will not back down. If you don't believe that, and think they are bluffing, are you willing to risk the entire world on that? For Ukraine? Really? Please tell me how Ukraine is worth the world.
Get some better perspective, Sean.
