This is not a surprise for everyone. I've been watching this intently for about the last 20 years.

My mom lives north of Houston in a subdivision that backs onto a bayou (that is Texas speak for a stream or river). There is a several meter elevation difference front to back in the subdivision. Fortunately for my mom (dad died) when they bought there 40+ years ago, my dad said they should buy a home higher up (nearer the front).

Over the last 20 years, about every 5 years there is a "100 year flood" or worse. As the years have gone on, rebuilding the lower level areas stopped. So now some of the back blocks are more than half empty.

Due to covid I haven't been able to visit since 2019, but I'm expecting there will be even fewer homes there the next time I get over the Atlantic. I'm sure this is happening all over the country on the coasts.
