This is a great and depressing film. I have it on DVD for a long time and this will spur a viewing ASAP. The view of 1930s California is very interesting for my history-buff mind.

As I often do to the unending "delight" of my wife, I'll make this about current politics. The sentiment, "Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown" is why people are willing to roll the dice on an obvious con man like Trump. They are sick of the Red/Blue/Corporate corruption and the rich and famous getting away with (at times literal) murder. They are dying under mountains of debt and unavailable health care.

We are just lucky that Trump is lazy and not that bright. 1930s Europe was not as lucky and I don't expect the US to be as lucky next time either.
