This conversation began, and I continue to bring it back to nuance. You can use the word "context" if you're tired of "nuance."

Hamas made the ACT of changing their charter to soften their stance on Israel. This is something they DID. Hamas are still terrorists IMO (or freedom fighters, depending on who you're asking)

Was there a reciprocal act by Israel to loosen the control on Gaza after Hamas' act? No. That context matters.

Hamas made a gesture to Israel. That gesture was rejected. Hamas responded by reminding Israel that they are still a brutal organization willing to kill to bring change.

The IRA in Northern Ireland were also terrorists. The only way they got to peace was by having Britain and the Irish political parties actually negotiate in good faith. That hasn't happened yet in Israel.

The option to escape and "live there best lives" is not an option. Palestinians have no rights, and need papers to go anywhere and do anything in Israel. Israel would in a best case hunt them down and return them to Gaza, at worst kill them. To believe that Gazans can just "leave and live their best lives" is on the level of delusion as when empire apologists said Julian Assange could leave the Ecuadorian embassy any time he wanted, as the UK and US were not after him.

There is a huge concentration of Palestinians in Gaza. They cannot leave. They do not control their border, their water, their fuel, their food. 2006 the Israeli Prime Minister said that Israeli policy was "to put Palestinians on a diet, but not to make them die of hunger. In 2012 it was leaked that at least in 2008 Israel was calculating the minimum caloric intake for Palestinians to avoid malnutrition. It is a concentration camp.

"Although, as far as I'm aware, none of the Jews held in actual concentration camps in Germany became homicidal maniacs who slaughtered innocent Germans upon their release either. Certainly not 1200 of them." You make my points for me, Steve.

I summarize the above and most of your arguments: "The Israeli concentration camp of Gaza is not as bad as the Nazi concentration camps were." Well whoop dee fucking doo. That's a pretty low bar there, Steve.

I will note that in the 75 years since the end of WWII, Jews have hunted down and killed thousands of Nazis, suspected Nazis, Nazi collaborators and suspected Nazi collaborators. How many were killed that were NOT the guilty party, we'll never know.

I can't say I'll miss our "debate." I've had a lot of debates over the years on Medium, this one has not been enjoyable. Your musings about my age, my knowledge and my perspectives are - from about your second response - mostly just passive-aggressive. That combined with your strawman arguments, projection, etc. are all just rhetorical tactics you have used rather than just facts and logic.

I've used this discussion to inform other people who may read, but I learned little new from you. Learning new things is the reason I read Medium and post comments.
