There was No Nixon Cult like Trump’s

I’m with Diane Tyson on this one. I’m at least a half-generation younger than you and became politically aware only at the end of the 70s. My dad (RIP) was a life-long Republican, but he died in 2000 so never saw the Iraq War or Trump. Dad used to quip, “I don’t know how Nixon got elected. Apparantly I’m the only one who voted for him.”

Point being that after Watergate it was toxic, even among Republicans, to admit that you voted for Nixon.

Aside: There is a great 3 part series by Russ Baker entitled “Watergate Revelations: The Coup Against Nixon”) that makes a very good case that Nixon was set up with Watergate. Why and by whom I won’t say to avoid spoilers. Great read!
