The US lost in Vietnam for the same reason we are still losing in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, etc. We were not attacked by those countries, we have culturally very little in common, and we don't plan on staying after the war is done. It is virturally impossible to win any type of war - and impossible to win a war of attrition - under those conditions.
