The logistics dodge is the same one I’ve heard before and it is also proven false by history. The US has social security since the 1930s, medicare since the 1960s. The US has tripled and doubled (respectively) in size since the start of these completely socialist policies, and they have not fallen apart. They are by far the most popular programs in the US.
Actually the opposite is true. There are greater efficiencies the larger the pool of people there is.
All studies (even the right wing Cato institute) say that “Medicare for all” in the US would be cheaper and better than the current system. More socialism = better.
According to your definition every country in the EU and North America (Canada, US, Mexico) are welfare states, along with dozens of others around the globe.
