The issue was the oligarchy in the USSR planning the economy as part of their authoritarian government. That is not the "opposite" of captialism.

The US is moving in this direction for many decades now. Ironically accelerated by the fall of the Soviet Union. The Waltons, Bezos, Gates, Musk, Cook (to a lesser extent). 10 people, 12 if you count Google's founders, who control a huge portion of the US economy.

The middle of the US and large parts of the south are like 3rd world countries. Hook worm, open sewers, etc.

Social Democracy is the answer.
