The cracks are already very big in the EU resolve against Russia's invasion. Germany, Austria, Hungary, Greece (probablby some others) have all claimed exclusion or non-willingness to support the oil & gas embargos. The language for the oil embargo has been made toothless.
German industry can't survive without Russian gas, let alone what will happen when it starts to get cold. Austria said straight up they can't survive short or mid-term without Russian gas. Germany is hinting at it. I don't know about other countries.
If the Ukraine war continues apace, in six months Russia will control 40% of the country. The remaining rump state will be landlocked. Russia will be even more in the driver's seat than now.
The question is: Will the Europeans be ready to freeze or die fighting so that Ukraine remains a US vassal and has the possibility to be a NATO / EU member one day. That is what the fight is about.
As bad as I feel for the s Ukrainians, I hope the answer is "no." Because if the answer is "yes" it is going to get a whole lot worse quickly, and may not ever get better (nuclear war) and even if it does get better, all the logistic problems in your article just get harder during a war, meaning it will take even longer. Right now we're looking at 10s of thousands of deaths, millions of displacements. If the EU does NOT settle with Russia we're looking at 100s of thousands to millions of deaths and millions to 10s of millions of displacements before it gets better.
