I don't just "think" that two questions are actually two questions. I know it.

1) "Why would a country which never showed global expansionist tendency, go into a proxy war with a so much poorer country?"

2) "Why would a country which is the biggest global expansionist, has the most consumeristic society ever, controls more than 700 military bases in more than 80 countries arround the world and spends on its military more than the next 10 countries combined go into a proxy war with a country which has almost double the natural resources?"

Those are literally two questions and roughly 80% of the text of the entire original post.
