Thank you for confirming my point. There was an Austrian empire from the 1300s until 1918. They had a distinct identity from the German volk, including multiple Kingsdoms over the centuries that lived on their Northern and Eastern border(s).
About 1938 you are incorrect. Roughly 1/4 of the Austrian population supported the Nazis and der Anschluß. Never a majority.
The Nazis in Germany and Austria, like the Nazis in Ukraine, have a huge advantage over their political adversaries. Namely the Nazis are ready and willing to us violence against their opponents. Most people are not willing to die for their political beliefs. So as in Germany, a minority Nazi party in Austria cowed enough other Austrians to go along with them and say nothing.
This has been a constant subject of shame, denial and finally some reflection in Austria (where I live for nearly 30 years) since WWII.
There were no doubt lots of Austrians who helped the Nazis, and many more who took advantage of the situation to steal the property of their Jewish (and other "undesireable") neighbors. But never "most." You are just factually, historically incorrect on this point.
