Tell them you're moving from one desert (Southern California) to one near desert in Valencia. It is a toss-up on grass at all, let alone green grass.

Regarding "the grass is greener where you water it, " there are exceptions to that. Places like the north island of New Zealand, the east side of the Hawaiian islands, the Netherlands, Ireland, and parts of England are green AF without watering because it rains there A LOT. New Zealand had a huge volcanic eruption about 100 years ago, and now, 100 years later, they have nutrient-rich volcanic topsoil, which is great for grass.
