Stalin was definitely a beast. Soviet "communism" was nothing more than the Bolsheviks taking over the Tsar's bureaucracy and calling it "for the people." It was as much communism as the DPRK is a "democratic people's republic".
In the immortal words of Tyler Durden, "Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken."
