Serious click bait title. Cut that shit out, dude. The world is scary enough without it.
I don't know who came up with the tactic the Russians used, but the US used it A LOT in Iraq. The issues are:
- There are old missiles that are no longer really useful
- Leaving them around is dangerous
- Decommissioning is expensive / time consuming
- We want to know where the enemies anti missile radars are located
- We want the enemy to waste anti-missile missile
The ingenious solution by us (US) and now used by Russia:
- Fire old missiles as decoys and to get the enemy to turn on their radar, so that you can use your real missiles to target the anti-missile radar installations. Bonus that the enemy wastes anti-missile missiles on decoys. This tactic worked REALLY well in Iraq for the US. No idea how well it is working for the Russians.
This has nothing to do with how many missiles Russia has left. Let me note I've been reading since April that Russia is running out of missiles.
Can we just admit we have no idea how many missiles Russia is producing and/or has stockpiled?
