Poroshenko (Ukraine president before Zelenskyy) said in public several years ago that Ukraine never meant to implement Minsk, that "They got all they wanted out of it" by signing but not implementing.

Now Angela Merkel has done an interview a few days ago where she also claims that Germany (a signatory) never supported Minsk, they were just fooling Russia into not joining the Civil War (and Minsk refers to the fighting as a civil war).

Together those statements from Ukraine and German leaders makes Russia feel like fools, because they trusted us when signing the peace accords that were a compromise.

That makes finding peace much more difficult now, because Russia rightly says, "Well, the last peace accords we signed in Ukraine with Ukraine and the West, you lied to us. Why should we believe you now?"

This is a massive own-goal by the West. This is not being reported much in the west (of course not) but in the global south will make all our diplomatic efforts more difficult.
