Please stop making false dichotomies. The Maidan coup was the Maidan coup. When writing about Lincoln's asssisnation it would be disengenous at best to say, "The idea that the Lincon assasination was like the Kennedy or McKinley assinations is fantasy." The Maidan coup was US backed. And it was a coup.

Armed insurgents forced the democractically elected president to flee under threat of death. His replacement was installed unconstitutionally. That is the definition of a coup. The rest are important details, but they don't change the fact that it was a coup.
