Ode To Trump

A good thing about Trump, and that list is very fucking short, is that he didn't start any new major wars. Don't get me wrong, what he did with Yemen, Russia, China, Venezuela, Syria, and Iran (to name a few) was horrible, but he did not start the US on a war path that he alone couldn't stop.

The simplest counter example to Trump's non-new war example - and the reason I'm still happy he won in 2016 despite my not wanting him to win - is Hillary's desired "no fly zone" in Syria. Once the no fly zone that she wanted in Libya was established, it was only a matter of time before there was a ground war, a new failed state, and a huge wave of refugees. One person can’t stop a no fly zone. As bad as killing Soleimani was (and it was bad), a single assassination is not equivalent to a coordinated military campaign.

If Hillary had won, by 2019 Syria would have been a full scale war zone, possibly directly with Russia. Several million MORE refugees would have been trying to get into Europe and other less dangerous parts of Africa.

The Covid pandemic in the EU in 2020 would have been 5 times worse than it was (and still is). We now have (at least) two new virulent mutations of Covid, one that is just starting to wash through the EU.

If Biden follows his career path, we'll soon be looking at 100s of thousands of potential additional Covid carriers spreading out from his new Mid-East wars. If we’re “lucky” also from Venezuela, not so far from the second new virulent Covid strain showing up in Brazil. Since US television won’t show the images, the average US citizen won’t know about it, but it will affect them just the same.
