Not unprecedented by a long shot!

Israel invaded the Golan Heights in Syria and has held them illegally for decades. The US is currently illegally holding 1/3 of Syria for the last several years. Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974 and still holds about 1/2 the island. I'm sure there are other examples.
