Not just rare earth minerals. Copper will be a problem. A BEV needs about 4x as much copper as an ICE vehicle, about 80kg. Mostly for the battery. And at the same time we're expanding home and business batteries for renewable energy storage. And to store that we need the transmission lines from the energy source to the batteries.

An old engineer friend did the math and said there is not enough copper on the planet to move to full renewables, batteries and BEVs. I didn't check his math, but we've been colleagues for decades and he doesn't have a dog in this hunt.

You are 100% right about Tesla stock, and that is why I've never and will never buy any.
