Not ignorance: cognitive dissonance. A lot of people have their entire lives built around the fantasy of Western "goodness."

Accepting that rich and powerful western "leaders" will sacrifice innocent people, even their own citizens, to make a buck or win an election would destroy that world view.

It is easier on the mind to continue to "not see" the evidence than to realize their entire world view is based in great part on horrible lies and war crimes.
