My wife and I never finished Bones because the DVDs were tough to get at the time, but it is on our list.

In my opinion, having a diagnosis for Dr. Brennan is not important - even counterproductive. There are plenty of people who are seen as quirky, driven, with a good memory, socially awkward, etc. who do just fine NOT being labeled. Maybe we...I mean "they" ;-) are on the spectrum, maybe they are not.

One of the differences between an "actor" and a "star" and also between great films and very popular films (understanding there is often overlap) is that stars and popular films are not defined down to the smallest detail.

Daniel Day-Lewis transformed himself into the roles he played and was lauded massively. Keanu Reeves has been plagued since his earliest days with the critique that he is wooden and non-emotive. Who is seen as a great actor? Who is the star? Do people relate more to Daniel Day-Lewis or Keanu Reeves? Whose movies are seen as great, and whose do masses of people love to see multiple times?

If Brennen is diagnosed definitively as X, then everyone who is not X will relate less to her. By being just a quirky, brilliant, social dork, everyone like that can see themselves in her more easily, making her - and the show - much more relatable and popular.

My two cents about a show I really like. :-)
