Love this story. I’m re-reading a four-book Science Fiction/Fantasy classic from early 80s called, “The Book of the New Sun.” It takes so far in the future that everything underfoot, or dug up, only reveals relics from the human past. The fantasy is that humans will survive a billion+ years on earth.

For me the book is a lot about perspective. How do we view ourselves as humans on our planet ? How do we deal with our past actions? How insignificant are humans. And yet one person can make a huge difference. I read this series as a teenager when it first came out nearly 40 years ago —Pre-internet. Pre-global warming. Pre-neoliberal resurgance. The change in my perspective is also interesting. I bet Chet would agree.
