I've traveled in France but never lived there. I have lived in a couple of European countries and have worked all over Europe.

One of my descriptions of the differences between the US and Europe is in the US you live where you work. In Europe, you work where you live. It is a different mindset here (I live in Austria for 30 years), much more people-centered, just as you say. In the US, everything is work-centered.
