Ukraine did not want to fight Russia before the US-backed overthrow of the election in 2004. That is true. They didn't even want to fight after the US-backed coup in 2014. That is why Zelenskyy won his election in 2018 with 70+% of the vote - he promised a peace plan with Russia.

Unfortunately for the Ukrainian people, the US, Germany, France and the Ukraine government prior to 2018 did want to use Ukraine as a proxy against Russia. It looks like Zelenskyy really tried at first to stop the Nazi and other far right elements in his armed forces and controlling parts of his government when he came into office. That didn't last long. This war is the result of multiple actors, mostly the US, but of course Russia as well.

Putin is a brutal dictator. He is not going to lose in Ukraine, even though your depiction of who is losing is at odds with what the military maps say.

We'll see in a few more months how your prediction is working out.
