I've been vegan nearly 5 years. I agree that many vegans come across way too strong in condemnation of non-vegans. My wife and I refer to them as "the vegan police." Very annoying and usually counterproductive.

That being said, of course veganism is morally and ethically superior to eating meat and dairy. You are either ignorant or a liar to claim otherwise. 99% of US meat is factory farmed: raised in horrible conditions and killed in brutal and terrifying manners. Those animals feel pain just like we do. They have the level of sentience of small children, cats and/or dogs, and try to avoid pain, fear and death just like those three examples. To say that kicking a carrot is the same as kicking a rabbit is just insulting my intelligence.

Now THAT being said, virtually no one is born vegan. I sure as hell wasn't! We all go through a journey in life. Veganism is not viable for a huge percentage of the world. That is a fact. But if you can go vegan (you are well off enough and live in an area where it is posssible) or at least reduce the amount of meat and dairy you consume then definitely it is better: Morally, ethically, environmentally.
