I've been doing business in Turkey since 2007 and traveling there since 2000. Really cool country and very nice people.

IMO their problem is a deeper identity problem than just their name. Part of it is an unresolved issue between religion and secularism. Part of it is an unresolved issue on which side to lean towards (US/EU or RFA/ME). Last but not least, as a Turkish friend put it, "Turkiye chose some really bad neighbors." Look on a map what countries Turkey borders. Not exactly the most stable neigbhorhood.
