It is true that Russia is horrible on LGBTQ+ rights. It is also true that during #Russiagate, one of the most common memes was that Trump and Putin were gay lovers. IIRC even Steven Colbert called Trump "Putin's cock holster."

I found (and find) it horrible that alleged leftists were going after Trump in a (as you say) "80s movie locker room" way, when Trump's corruption was on full display and not gone after. It does not speak well of the alleged leftists.
