It is not. China, the UN, and the US officially see Taiwan as part of China. Taiwan is tightly bound to the mainland for trade.

If anyone thinks China will let Taiwan declare independence and "go their own way" they are an idiot or so incredibly naive they should not be allowed on the internet with a credit card.
