It actually works exactly like that. We make it illegal to to discriminate against people. Sure, there are still people who will always hate LGBTQ people. But because they must no longer hide, the vast majority of people learn that LGBTQ people are just people. Yes they are different in different ways, just like left handed people are different but no longer forced to be right handed.

If we make it really illegal to be racist, unlike now where racism is still part of the basic US system, there will still be lots of racists. But through real integration, over time more and more white people (like me) will learn that POC are just people with the same dreams and issues as everyone else.

In exactly the same way we stopped (most) people from driving cars without seatbelts, or made slavery (mostly) illegal, we could stop people from eating meat.

If we survive as a species, 100 years from now people will look back at people like you just like people are starting to look at homophobes, and people from the 1850s who said “we can’t just ‘stop slavery’.” Of course we fucking can. We just don’t because of culture and a shitton of money from the meat and dairy lobbies. Just like with slavery in the 1850s.
