Ironically, this is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) problem with the US military today. Our weapons systems are super complex, expensive, and specific. As a result we cannot ramp up production quickly nor can we keep weapons in the field for long periods of time, even with very expensive repair crews relatively close by.

Shortly put, we have forgotten a key lesson from WWII that helped us win that war with our allies.
