Ironically, the US first-past-the-post electoral system, rather than the EU-common parlamentary system makes it harder (IMHO) in principle for a fascist takeover.

The problem in the US is that since Dukakis lost in 88, the Dems sold out to the same plutocrats as the Reps. There is one party with two heads. As a result the slide toward neo-feudalism since the early 90s has been steady and clear. The Dems move to the right, so the Reps move a bit more to the right.

It is going to get worse before it gets better. I just hope war can be avoided.
