In the late 70s Jimmy Carter and “Morning Joe” Mika Brzezinski’s dad (Zbigniew) — who was Carter’s National Security Advisor — decided to lure the Soviet Union into Afghanistan using the Mujahideen, lead by a little known (at the time) “Freedom Fighter” named Osama Bin Laden. The plan was to speed the financial ruin of the Soviets in the “Graveyard of Empires.” The plan worked pretty well, if you’re a sociopath who doesn’t put a price on all the lives that were lost in addition to destroying much of the country. The Soviets were there for about 10 years before limping home in defeat.

How ironic that after the US helped to destroy Afghanistan in the 80s, we are now limping home in defeat after nearly 20 years of re-destroying (and rebuilding) that country. I’m guessing the average Afghan doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the irony, and will just be happy when we finally stop “saving them.”
