IMO we normalize violence every day internationally. We justify to ourselves that we (the US) can occupy, bomb, invade, and/or violently overthrow any country we say is "breaking international norms" (or some other made-up term).

Since WWII and particularly since the end of the cold war we've been on an international murder and killing spree. I am not all surprised to see the increased violence has now "come home."
