IMHO the issue with the fall of the US empire is that only one previous empire (USSR) had the power to destroy the earth through nuclear weapons. We are only 30 years on from that collapse and are right in the middle of the fallout (see what I did there?).

If nothing else, it is an interesting time to be alive.
