I'm not one to defend AirBnB, but the idea was to provide income for the people renting out space.

I'm less worried about hygiene and more about safety. Is there a smoke detector? A fire escape? A sprinkler system? I've seen how quickly a condo hallway can turn into a poisonous smoke deathtrap in a fire. Time is measured in seconds and minutes. Hotels have to spend the money to make sure everyone has way out. AirBnB puts that risk on you, the person sleeping there.
